During the last three years, EIT Food has organized a Body of Knowledge to discuss the water scarcity issue in Europe and the potential solutions. This year I had the opportunity to participate as a member of the Body of Knowledge to support the governance solutions to tackle water scarcity.
The Body of Knowledge is an initiative where researchers from different countries come to discuss and share their thoughts and concerns about water scarcity. In my case, I had the opportunity to share the discussion with Guido Schmidt and Stella Tsani. Alban Lika, Amparo Sereno, and Tadej Stepisnik were also part of the workgroup.
The session was structured in two parts. Firstly, Stella, Guido, and I did a presentation about the conclusions of last year Body of Knowledge’s White Paper. Three topics were the most relevant: water cost recovery, illegal water abstraction, and cap water rights. Secondly, Gari Villa-Landa and Rafael Seiz joined the panel discussion, where we discussed the right price of water, the possibilities to avoid illegal abstractions or the lack of legal compliance in relation to water rights.
